Free TV Australia has commenced a public consultation on its revised draft of the Commercial Television Industry Code of Practice (the Code), marking a major step in ensuring the Code stays aligned with community expectations.
The Free TV Code of Practice provides robust safeguards in accordance with community standards in areas such as program classification, accuracy and impartiality in news, placement of commercials and program promotions and advertising time limits. The Review will ensure that the Code continues to operate effectively well into the future.
The proposed updates to the Code enhance safeguards in areas like program classification, accuracy in news, and advertising standards, as well as making it easier for viewers to file complaints online. Key proposed changes include faster corrections of factual errors in news, improved high-impact alerts, and simpler language.
This consultation provides a crucial opportunity for the public to weigh in on the future of commercial television, and Free TV is now working through responses. More detail can be found here.
